Grant Making

The McDougall Trust makes a number of small grants each year to organisations or individuals for purposes that further the Trust’s charitable objects.

Who can apply?
Organisations or individuals whose proposed activities fall within the Trust’s charitable objects.

Trust priorities
The Trust currently has the following priority areas:

A: Political science generally.
B: Election studies in particular.

Consideration will be given primarily to finite small-scale projects or activities; part funding will be considered.

How to apply
There are two deadlines for applications each year: 1 May and 1 October. Trustees meet regularly during the year and decisions are usually processed within six months. All successful applicants will be notified in writing.

If you would like to be considered for one of these grants please write to the Executive Secretary explaining briefly (in not more than four sides of A4, including an outline budget) the nature of your project, who will undertaken the work, timescales and intended outcomes.

You may be asked to supply additional information if the Trustees wish to take your application further.

We do not fund

• Proposals not covered by the Trust’s objects;
• Large-scale projects (though part-funding of individual items might be considered);
• Support for education courses including gap-year projects;
• General appeals.

We regret that the number of applications in relation to the limited funds available is such that some proposals, even though they fit our priorities, still have to be turned down.
